Hair Shedding and Growth Sprays Lead Fastest-Growing Hair Loss Trends: Spate

Across platforms, interest in hair shedding has grown by 105.6% compared to last year, driven largely by TikTok.

Hair loss is a common, albeit frustrating occurrence most people experience at some point in life. It can be due to stress from major life changes, in the form of Telogen effluvium, hormonal changes related to menopause and pregnancy, among other reasons. According to Spate’s Popularity Index, the fastest-growing hair loss trends right now are hair shedding and hair growth sprays.

Hair Shedding

While alarming at first, hair shedding is normal. In fact, most people lose between 50 and 150 hairs per day as part of the natural growth cycle, though excessive shedding can stem from genetics, hormones, medical conditions, or medications. Across platforms, interest in hair shedding has grown by 105.6% compared to last year, driven largely by TikTok, where the trend is up 643.5%. Instagram has grown 284.0%, while Search is up 27.1%. Google leads this trend with 52.6% Popularity Share.

Analysts say hair shedding receives 49,600 average monthly searches on Google and 19.3 million average weekly views on TikTok. Search behavior shows consumers are looking for reassurance and solutions. Top queries include stop, how to, and why, often paired with broader hair loss concerns like hair breakage (1,300 average monthly searches). On TikTok, top related hashtags like #hairloss (974,800 average weekly views), #hairgrowth (433,800), and #hairthinning (142,200) highlight anxiety around thinning and regrowth. Paid content plays a meaningful role, with a 42.4% paid views share, suggesting consumers are open to brand-led education. Ingredient-led content also performs well, particularly around #rosemaryoil (115,000 average weekly views); #rosemarywater (103,100); #pumpkinseedoil (110,600); and #aloevera (86,300). At the same time, affordability matters, as evidenced by the popularity of #walmartfinds, signaling that accessible price points remain key, analysts say.

Hair Growth Sprays

Keranique leads search interest.

One of the fastest-growing solutions for shedding is hair growth sprays. According to analysts, this trend has grown by 286.6% compared to last year across platforms. On Search, interest is up 70.7%, while TikTok has grown over 1,000%, and Instagram is up 385.4%. TikTok leads this trend with 56.3% Popularity Share. Hair growth spray receives 2,800 average monthly searches on Google and 172,500 average weekly views on TikTok.

Search behavior shows consumers are focused on both benefits and convenience. Top queries include regrowth (460 average monthly searches); treatments (410 average monthly searches); and leave-in formats (100 average monthly searches), signaling demand for products that can be used daily and fit easily into existing routines. Consumers are also drawn to trendy, plant-based ingredients like rosemary and rosemary water, per Spate.

Two brands currently leading search interest are Keranique and Moerie. On TikTok, discovery is largely driven by paid content, with a high paid views share of 68.7%. Top related hashtags include #ad and #tiktokshopblackfriday, suggesting that while brands have entered the space, organic awareness is still developing. Like other hair loss trends, hair growth sprays see stronger engagement when content centers on ingredients, with TikTok interest around #rosemarywater (57,000 average weekly views) and #rosemaryforhair (10,600 average weekly views). At the same time, hashtags like #hairgrowthtips (28,600 average weekly views) and #hairgrowthjourney (5,700 average weekly views) highlight consumer demand for both guidance and progress-driven content.

Analysts say brands that partner with creators to document real routines, and visible results can tap into the community-driven nature of this trend and build long-term trust.
